6. Solve Inequalities by Addition or Subtraction
Sign In
Use the Subtraction Property of Inequality.
x > - 1
Inequalities can be solved in the same way as equations, by performing inverse operations on both sides until the variable is isolated. Let's use the Subtraction Property of Inequality to solve the inequality.
The above tells us that all values of x that are greater than - 1 will satisfy the inequality.
| x | x + 0.7 > - 0.3 | Simplify | True or False? |
|---|---|---|---|
| - 1 | - 1 + 0.7 > - 0.3 | - 0.3 ≯ - 0.3 | False |
| 0 | 0 + 0.7 > - 0.3 | 0.7 > - 0.3 | True |
| 1 | 1 + 0.7 > - 0.3 | 1.7 > - 0.3 | True |
We can conclude that as long as x is greater than - 1, the inequality is satisfied.
