Exercise 27 Page 334

To add or subtract fractions, they need to have the same denominator.

46/63

Practice makes perfect
When adding or subtracting fractions, they should have the same denominator. In this exercise, we have two fractions with different denominators. 4/9 + 2/7To create create a common denominator we will multiply the numerator and the denominator of the first fraction by 7. Similarly, we will multiply the numerator and the denominator of the second fraction by 9.
4/9 + 2/7
4* 7/9* 7 + 2/7
4 * 7/9 * 7 + 2 * 9/7 * 9
28/63 + 18/63
Now that we have a common denominator, we can proceed to simplifying the expression.
28/63 + 18/63
28+18/63
46/63
