2. Compare and Order Rational Numbers
Continue to next subchapter

Exercise 6 Page 275

Try to rewrite all of the values in the same form before ordering them.

{19 %, 15, 0.23 }

Practice makes perfect

Let's approach ordering the given set from least to greatest one number at a time.

First Value

First, we have 0.23. It is in decimal form, we do not have to rewrite this number. We will rewrite the other numbers as decimals to order them. 0.23

Second Value

Next, we have 19 %. Recall that we can rewrite percent as a decimal. Let's take a look.
19 %
0.19
Next, we can compare this number to 0.23. 19 % < 0.23 ⇔ 19 % < 0.23

Third Value

Let's rewrite the third value, 15.
1/5
1* 20/5* 20
20/100
0.2
In this form, we can compare this number to the other two. 0.19 < 0.2 < 0.23 ⇕ 19 % < 15 < 0.23

Combining the Numbers

Now, we can write the set in order from least to greatest. {19 %, 15, 0.23 }
