Exercise 34 Page 290

30

Practice makes perfect
We are given two fractions with different denominators. 1/5 and 7/6 Recall that the least common denominator is the least common multiple (LCM) of the denominators of the fractions. LCM is the least multiple shared by two or more numbers, not including zero. The first step to find the LCM of two or more numbers is to write the prime factorization of each number.
Given Number Prime Factorization
5 5
6 2 * 3

Then, we list the greatest number of times each factor appears in either prime factorization and multiply these factors. 5 * 2 * 3=30 We found that the least common denominator of the given fractions is 30.
