Exercise 2 Page 29

When multiplying conversion factors, make sure the only remaining units are the desired units.

0.45mi/min

Practice makes perfect
We want to express 27 miles per hour in miles per minute. 27 mi/h= mi/minThis means that we need to change miles per hour into miles per minute. To do so, we will use the fact that 1 hour is equal to 60 minutes. Let's write this relationship as a unit ratio. 60 min/1h To perform the conversion, we need to multiply the speed in miles per hour by the unit ratio or its reciprocal. Remember, we want to arrange these ratios such that every unit we do not want gets canceled out, and only the units that we want will remain.
27mi/h = 27mi/1h * 1h/60min
27mi/h = 27mi * 1h/1h* 60min
27mi/h = 27mi * 1 h/1 h* 60min
27mi/h = 27mi * 1/1* 60min
27mi/h = 27mi/60min
27mi/h = 0.45mi/min
We found that the human run at a speed of 0.45 mile per minute.
