Exercise 1 Page 29

When multiplying conversion factors, make sure the only remaining units are the desired units.

115mi/h

Practice makes perfect
We want to express 607 200 feet per hour in miles per hour. 607 200 ft/h= mi/hThis means that we need to change feet per hour into miles per hour. To do so, we will use the fact that 1 mile is equal to 5280 feet. Let's write this relationship as a unit ratio. 5280 ft/1mi To perform the conversion, we need to multiply the speed in feet per second by the unit ratio or its reciprocal. Remember, we want to arrange these ratios such that every unit we do not want gets canceled out, and only the units that we want will remain.
607 200 ft/h = 607 200ft/1h * 1mi/5280ft
607 200 ft/h = 607 200ft * 1mi/1h* 5280ft
607 200 ft/h = 607 200 ft * 1mi/1h* 5280 ft
607 200 ft/h = 607 200 * 1mi/1h* 5280
607 200 ft/h = 607 200mi/5280h
607 200 ft/h = 115mi/h
We found that the speed is equal to 115 miles per hour.
