Absolute Value of a Number

It is a distance between the number and 0 on a number line.

In other words, the absolute value of a number is the non-negative value of that number. The absolute value of a number a can be written as |a|. |a| = a and |- a| = a We want to find the absolute value of -5. To do this, we will plot this number on a number line and measure its distance.
given number
The distance from the point to 0 is 5 units. Therefore, the absolute value of -5 is 5. |- 5| = 5
