The greatest common factor (GCF) is the greatest number that is a factor of two or more numbers. To find the GCF, we will make an organized list of the factors for each number.
Given number Common factors
48 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, and 48
60 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, and 60

In the table we can see that the greatest common factor (GCF) is 12 because it is the greatest factor that 48 and 60 share.
