Now we want to determine how much of each ingredient we would need to make an identical recipe that serves 12 and 36 people. We can find these quantities using the ratio table. First, let's consider a recipe for 12 people. Since 24 Ă· 2=12, we need to divide each quantity by 2 to find the desired proportions. Let's do it!

Liters of Soda 4 4 Ă· 2 = 2
Pints of Sherbet 2 2Ă· 2 = 1
Cups of Ice 6 6 Ă· 2 = 3

For 12 people, we need 2 liters of soda, 1 pint of sherbet, and 3 cups of ice. Now we can move on to the recipe for 36 people. There is no whole number by which we can multiply or divide 24 to get 36. However, notice that 12 * 3=36. We can use the proportions for 12 people and multiply them by 3 to get the recipe for 36 people!

There is no whole number by which we can divide 24 to get 18. Instead, we can scale back 24 to 6 and then scale forward to 18. Let's first divide the quantities by 4, then multiply them by 3.

24÷ 4 →6* 3 → 18 Let's use the ratio table one last time. First, we will add a column with all ingredients divided by 4. The second added column then multiply this number by 3. Let's do it!

For 18 people, we need 3 liters of soda, 1.5 pints of sherbet, and 4.5 cups of ice.
