The initial value of a linear function y=mx+b is equal to b.
Function A, see solution.
We are given two linear functions, A and B. We want to determine which of them has the greater initial value. Let's find the initial value of Function A.
y=-3x+ 2
Function A is given in the slope-intercept form, and therefore we can see that the initial value is equal to 2. Now, let find the initial value of Function B.
The initial value is the y-value of the point with x=0. Notice that we can find the initial value by completing the pattern.
We found that when x= 0 the y-value is -3. This means that the initial value of Function B is -3. Now we can compare the initial values.
| Function | Initial Value |
|---|---|
| Function A | 2 |
| Function B | -3 |
We can see that Function A has the greater initial value.
