Exercise 7 Page 494

Practice makes perfect
a

From the exercise we know that at 8:15 there were 300 people who entered the amusement park. By 8:30, there were 550 people in the amusement park. After that, the number of people who entered the park increased by 250 for every 15 minute interval. We get the following arithmetic sequence.

Notice that between 8:15 and 12:00 there are fifteen 15-minute intervals. By adding the people that enter every interval to the initial number of people, we can determine the amount of people that were in time for the parade. 300+250(15)=4050

b

Let's have a look at the general equation for an arithmetic sequence.

Arithmetic Sequence [-1em] t(n)= m(n-1)+ t(1) &Slope: m &First term: t(1) The sequence has an initial value of 300 and a slope of 250. Let's substitute this into the formula and simplify.

t(n)=m(n-1)+t(1)
t(n)= 250(n-1)+ 300
t(n)=250n-250+300
t(n)=250n+50
