Let's draw the scatterplot by graphing the given information.

Examining the diagram, we see that the relationship between the number of oaks and nightingales has a positive linear relationship. It also appears to be fairly strong.

To make a linear regression of the number of oaks and nightingales, we have to enter the values into lists. Push STAT, choose Edit, and then enter the values in the first two columns.

To view the linear regression analysis of the data set, push STAT, scroll right to view the CALC options, and then choose the fourth option in the list, LinReg.

The linear regression is y=0.5x+1.9. Let's add this to the scatterplot.

Examining the linear regression from Part B, we see that it has a slope of 0.5. Therefore, as the number of oaks increases by 1, the number of nightingales increases on average by 0.5.


We also know that the y-intercept is 1.9. When the number of oaks is 0, the number of nightingales is 1.9.
