Translations are done by adding or subtracting values from the x-coordinate if the figure is being moved left or right, and from the y-coordinate if the figure is being moved up or down.
A'(-1, 4), B(2,1), C(0,0)
We are given a triangle and asked to perform a translation.
Translations are done by adding or subtracting values from the x-coordinate if the figure is being moved left or right, and from the y-coordinate if the figure is being moved up or down. We want to draw the image of our figure after a translation of 4 units to the left and 1 unit down. So, we will subtract 4 from the x-coordinate and subtract 1 from the y-coordinate of each vertex.
| Vertices of ABC | (x-4,y-1) | Vertices of A'B'C' |
|---|---|---|
| A(3,5) | (3 - 4,5 - 1) | A'(- 1,4) |
| B(6,2) | (6 - 4,2 - 1) | B'(2,1) |
| C(4,1) | (4 - 4,1 - 1) | C'(0,0) |
