Practice makes perfect

Fractions, decimals, and percents are three ways to show parts of a whole. We want to write a fraction as a decimal and as a percent. Let's do these things one at a time.

Decimal

To write a fraction as a decimal, we divide the numerator by the denominator.
division
We found a pattern in the given quotient! 13÷ 9 = 1.444... We can write this repeating pattern as 1.4. 13÷ 9 = 1.4 We found that 139 expressed as a decimal is 1.4.

Percent

To write a fraction as a percent, we can use the equivalent decimal. To write a decimal as a percent, we multiply by 100 and add the percent symbol %.
We found that 1.4 expressed as a percent is 144.4 %.
