Exercise 24 Page 252

The percent equation is an equation in which the part is equal to the product of the corresponding percent and the whole.

The fundraising original goal was $5400.

Practice makes perfect
We are told that our school raised $6750, which accounted for 125% of the fundraising goal. We can find what number's 125% is equal to 6750 to find what the goal was. Recall that the percent equation is an equation in which the part is equal to the product of the corresponding percent and the whole. We can represent a is p percent of wwith the following equation. a= p% * wWe can find what number's 125% is equal to 6750 by substituting p%= 1.25 and a= 6750 into the formula and solve for w using the Properties of Equality.
a= p% * w
6750= 1.25 * w
Solve for w
6750/1.25=1.25* w/1.25
6750/1.25=1.25* w/1.25
6750/1.25=w
5400=w
w= 5400
Knowing the value of w, let's look at the completed percent equation. 6750= 125% * 5400 We found that 6750 is 125 % of 5400. This means that the fundraising original goal was $5400.
