Fractions, decimals, and percents are three ways to show parts of a whole. We want to write a fraction as a decimal and as a percent. Let's do these things one at a time.

Decimal

To write a fraction as a decimal, we divide the numerator by the denominator.

We found a pattern in the given quotient! 17÷ 6 = 2.8333... We can write this repeating pattern as 2.83. 17÷ 6 = 2.83 We found that 176 expressed as a decimal is 2.83.

Percent

To write a fraction as a percent, we can use the equivalent decimal. To write a decimal as a percent, we multiply by 100 and add the percent symbol %.

We found that 2.83 expressed as a percent is 283.3 %.
