Exercise 16 Page 141

Undo the multiplication using the Division Property of Equality.

g=6

Practice makes perfect
To solve an equation, we should first gather all of the variable terms on one side and all of the constant terms on the other side using the Properties of Equality. In this case, the only variable term is already on the left-hand side of the equation. Using the Division Property of Equality, we will divide both sides by 3.6 to isolate g.
3.6g =21.6
3.6g/3.6 = 21.6/3.6
g = 6
The solution to the equation is g=6. We can check our solution by substituting it into the original equation.
3.6g =21.6
3.6( 6) ? = 21.6
21.6=21.6
Since the left-hand side is equal to the right-hand side, our solution is correct.
