Practice makes perfect

We can treat the fraction as division. When dividing real numbers, the quotient will be positive if the signs are the same and it will be negative if the signs are different. cc Same Sign & Different Signs (+)÷(+)=(+) & (+)÷(-)=(-) (-)÷(-)=(+) & (-)÷(+)=(-)In our case notice that the minus sign is in front of the fraction, so we can think of it as multiplying the fraction by - 1. The numerator is positive and the denominator is positive, so the fraction will be positive. Multiplying the fraction by - 1 will give a negative result.

We can verify this using a calculator.
