Exercise 11 Page 386

For inequalities on a number line, what does it mean when a point is open or closed?

Practice makes perfect
We want to find the graph of the given inequality. To graph an inequality on a number line, we need to make note of two things. The first thing is the direction of the inequality and the second thing is whether it is strict. At first, let's rearrange the inequality to take a better look! -3 ≤ p ⇕ p ≥ -3 We see that all values of p are greater than or equal to -3. Since p can equal -3 we draw a closed circle at this point. We will shade the part of the number line that represents numbers greater than or equal to -3. This means that we shade to the right of our point at -3. Let's do this!
