4. The Distributive Property
Continue to next subchapter

Exercise 41 Page 226

4n-3

Practice makes perfect

We want to simplify the given expression. To do it, we will use the Distributive Property. We will distribute 3 to the terms inside the parentheses.

\(n+3(n-1)\)
\(n+3(n)-3(1)\)
\(n+3n-3\)
\(1n+3n-3\)
\((1+3)n-3\)
\(4n-3\)

Since $4n$ and $3$ are not like terms, the expression cannot be simplified further.
