Exercise 27 Page 179

Rewrite a fraction as a percent. To do this, find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

80 %

Practice makes perfect
Fractions and percents are ways to show parts of a whole. We want to tell which number is greater. 80 %, 7/10 To do this, we will write a fraction as a percent. To write a fraction as a percent, we first find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. 7/10=x/100 We multiply 10 by 10 to get 100, so we will also multiply 7 by 10 to get an equivalent fraction.
1/2
We found that 710 and 70100 are equivalent fractions. Now we can write the new fraction as a percent by looking at the numerator and adding a percent symbol. 7/10=70/100 ⇒ 7/10= 70 % Since 80 is greater than 70, 80 % is greater than 70 %. This means that 80 % is greater than 710.
