Exercise 26 Page 179

Rewrite a fraction as a percent. To do this, find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

3/8

Practice makes perfect
Fractions and percents are ways to show parts of a whole. We want to tell which number is greater. 3/8, 30 % To do this, we will write a fraction as a percent. To write a fraction as a percent, we first find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. 3/8=x/100 We multiply 8 by 12.5 to get 100, so we will also multiply 3 by 12.5 to get an equivalent fraction.
3/8
We found that 38 and 37.5100 are equivalent fractions. Now we can write the new fraction as a percent by looking at the numerator and adding a percent symbol. 5/8=37.5/100 ⇒ 5/8= 37.5 % Since 37.5 is greater than 30, 37.5 % is greater than 30 %. This means that 38 is greater than 30 %.
