Exercise 22 Page 179

Rewrite a fraction as a percent. To do this, find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

5/8

Practice makes perfect
Fractions and percents are ways to show parts of a whole. We want to tell which number is greater. 60 %, 5/8 To do this, we will write a fraction as a percent. To write a fraction as a percent, we first find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. 5/8=x/100 We multiply 8 by 12.5 to get 100, so we will also multiply 5 by 12.5 to get an equivalent fraction.
5/8
We found that 58 and 62.5100 are equivalent fractions. Now we can write the new fraction as a percent by looking at the numerator and adding a percent symbol. 5/8=62.5/100 ⇒ 5/8= 62.5 % Since 62.5 is greater than 60, 62.5 % is greater than 60 %. This means that 58 is greater than 60 %.
