Exercise 19 Page 179

Rewrite a fraction as a percent. To do this, find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

13/25

Practice makes perfect
Fractions and percents are ways to show parts of a whole. We want to tell which number is greater. 50 %, 13/25 To do this, we will write a fraction as a percent. To write a fraction as a percent, we first find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. 13/25=x/100 We multiply 25 by 4 to get 100, so we will also multiply 13 by 4 to get an equivalent fraction.
52/100
We found that 1325 and 52100 are equivalent fractions. Now we can write the new fraction as a percent by looking at the numerator and adding a percent symbol. 13/25=52/100= 52 % Since 52 is greater than 50, 52 % is greater than 50 %. This means that 1325 is greater than 50 %.
