We are asked to write an algebraic expression for the given verbal expression. Subtract 7 from 11, then divide by 2.

We can separate it into two parts. The first one is Subtract 7 from 11. To denote the subtraction of one number from the other we use the - sign. Let's change this part into an algebraic expression, keeping in mind the order in which the numbers should appear. 11 - 7 The second part is then divide by 2. This means that the result of what came before it should be divided by 2. To make sure that whole previous expression will be divided, let's place it between the parentheses. ( 11 - 7 ) ÷ 2 Note that this is just one of possible ways to write this expression.
