4. Scatter Plots and Lines of Fit
Sign In
How do you choose where to draw a line of fit?
See solution.
When considering a line of fit for a scatter plot, we should draw it as centrally as possible. The purpose of a line of fit is to show the general trend of the data so it should be close to as many points as possible.
After we have a line of fit, we can use it to state how strongly correlated the data is, whether the correlation is positive or negative, and even predict future data points. Ultimately, scatter plots and lines of fit are tools to model and predict data.
