We will begin by remembering the general form of an equation for a horizontal line. y=k In this equation k can be any real number. Therefore, the given equations y=-2 and y=1 are graphed as horizontal lines in the coordinate plane.

Now we can graph the other two equations. There is also a general form for vertical lines. x=k In this form, k can be any real number. Therefore, the given equations x=5 and x=2 are represented by vertical lines in the coordinate plane.

As we can see, the horizontal and vertical lines form a rectangle. Additionally, since the distance from x=2 and x=5 is the same as the distance between y=- 2 and y=1, the rectangle is a square.
