5. Graphing Linear Equations in Slope-Intercept Form
Sign In
What information does a slope-intercept form equation give us?
x-intercept: - 1
Graph:
Equations written in slope-intercept form follow a specific format. y= mx+ b In this form, m represents the slope of the line and b represents the y-intercept.
A slope of -3 means that for every 1 unit we move in the positive horizontal direction, we move 3 units in the negative vertical direction. m=rise/run=-3/1 To graph the equation, plot the y-intercept and then use the slope to find another point on the line.
Now that we have graphed the given function, we can use our graph to identify the x-intercept. This is the point at which the line intercepts the x-axis.
The line crosses the axis at (-1,0) so the x-intercept is -1.
