Exercise 59 Page 144

In what form must you be able to write all linear equations?

Linear function.

Practice makes perfect
All linear equations must be able to be written in slope-intercept form. y=mx+b Let's solve the given equation for y to see if it can be written in this form.
x/4+y/12=1
â–Ľ
Solve for y
y/12=-x/4+1
y=-12x/4+12
y=- 3x+12
This equation is now in slope-intercept form with a slope of -3 and a y-intercept of 12. Therefore, the function is linear.
